A multi-million dollar film industry that produces movies from the south Indian state of Kerala is filming one of its biggest productions in Almonte, Ont., west of Ottawa.
Mollywood, not to be confused with Bollywood, is Malayalam cinema with more than 100 films produced each year.
In Almonte, the film "Two Countries" is being created, detailing a story about an Indo-Canadian girl who falls in love with a Malayali man in eastern Ontario.
Bruce Harvey, the head of Invest Ottawa's film office, said a major chunk of the film's budget goes to local businesses and hiring Canadians.
Harvey also said the production, expected to wrap up on Aug. 7, is a great boost for tourism.
