Rita Celli had unprecedented access to Ontario's only diamond mine

The CBC's Rita Celli has spent the past several months immersed in the Ontario mining industry and her investigation has some surprising revelations.

In particular, she uncovered a closely-guarded secret: that De Beers Canada, which owns the only diamond mine in the province, paid only $226 in royalties last year.

The Michener Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism allowed Celli to analyze several of the benefits often cited about mining in Ontario, including jobs and royalties.

As part of her investigation, Celli had unprecedented access to Ontario's only diamond mine.
