Maxwell's closing after 30 years in business
Pure Kitchen and another business to open up in former Maxwell's
The Elgin Street restaurant Maxwell's, which has been in business for 30 years, is closing its doors for good next week and will be replaced with a second Pure Kitchen location and another business.
The restaurant will close Jan. 17.
"Our staff and management wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your years of patronage," the restaurant posted on its website.
"Two new, exciting projects will emerge from this location, offering the best in food and social scene. See you again [in] spring 2016."
Pure Kitchen serves vegan and vegetarian food and juice, and currently operates a location in Westboro.
The business will get the keys to the first floor of the Maxwell's space in about two weeks and has set aside about two months for renovations, said Pure Kitchen employee James Campbell on Thursday.
The new business to be located upstairs has not yet been announced.
Maxwell's hosted a popular lounge night with host Johnny Vegas for years. You can check out a 1996 CBC Ottawa Television profile of the singer performing at Maxwell's in the video player above.
