A man in his 60s is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a possible trailer explosion Sunday morning north of Maniwaki, Que., police say.

First responders were called to a campground near the Baskatong Reservoir in Grand-Remous, Que., at around 9 a.m., according to the Sûreté du Québec.

The man suffered serious burns, spokesperson Camille Savoie told Radio-Canada.

He had to track down help himself, Savoie said, likely because the campground was mostly empty as it was early December.

Fire scene technicians and SQ investigators are looking into the potential explosion.

It was still too early to speculate Sunday on the cause, Savoie said.
