Male youth charged in University of Ottawa sexual assault
Suspect entered 8 rooms on campus but attempted to enter more than 50, Ottawa police say
A male under the age of 18 has been charged with sexual assault and break-and-enter after allegedly going room-to-room in a University of Ottawa residence early Sunday morning.
Ottawa police said a suspect entered eight rooms in the residence at 100 University Private but that he tried to enter more than 50 rooms.
University of Ottawa security found a youth matching the description of the suspect on the fourth floor of the residence. He was later arrested by Ottawa police.
The suspect cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police did not release his age.
He was released from custody on a promise to appear in court at a later date and "with conditions to protect the community." police said. Police charged him with a single count each of sexual assault and break-and-enter, but did not disclose the number of alleged victims.
