Ottawa's mayor has cancelled a meeting with the area's nine Conservative candidates after none of them arrived at city hall on Tuesday, according to his office.

Candidates either never responded to the invitation or cancelled by Monday evening at the latest, the mayor's account added on Twitter.

Within minutes of that tweet, however, local MP Pierre Poilievre called Watson's office to commit to a future meeting with the mayor.

Watson had scheduled meetings with candidates from the Liberal Party, NDP, Conservative Party and Green Party to discuss issues that affect Ottawa residents.

Watson met with all nine local Liberal candidates on Aug. 20 and all of the Green Party candidates on Monday.

He is scheduled to meet with local NDP candidates in the coming days, according to the mayor's office.
