Rachel Homan will not represent Ontario at the Canadian women's curling championship after suffering a stunning 10-8 upset to Jenn Hanna on Sunday in the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts final.

Hanna, who last represented Ontario at the national Scotties in 2005, scored three in the second end to take an early 3-1 lead over the heavily favoured Homan.

Homan chipped at the lead and went up 5-4 after laying two in the fifth end. Hanna responded with one in the sixth to tie, then a steal of two followed by a steal of three to take a commanding 10-5 lead into the eighth end.

Homan, the 2013 national champion, scored two in the ninth and one in the 10th but couldn't dig out of the five-point hole.

It was only the second time Hanna has won in 10 meetings between the Ottawa skips.

Hanna advanced to the final of the 2005 Scotties, her only appearance at the national final, before ultimately losing 8-6 to Jennifer Jones's Manitoba rink.

Hanna joins Quebec's Marie-France Larouche at the 2016 Scotties, which start Feb. 20 in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Larouche beat Lauren Mann 8-5 in the provincial final at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., scoring three in the fourth end and capping the victory with two in the ninth.

At Timmins, Ont., Krista McCarville beat Tracy Fleury 8-4 in the Northern Ontario final.

Jill Brothers will represent Nova Scotia after an 8-5 win over Mary-Anne Arsenault in Halifax.

The Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba finals were as held later Sunday.

Prince Edward Island, Nunavut and Yukon already had teams entered in the tournament.
