Former minor hockey coach charged with sexual assault
Allegations from 1987 to 1991 involving boy at bantam level in Ottawa
Ottawa police have charged a 57-year-old man with the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy while the man was a bantam level hockey coach.
Police say they started an investigation in March into allegations made by the victim, who said he was sexually assaulted between 1987 and 1991. The boy was allegedly assaulted from age 11 to 15.
Police arrested Kelly Jones on Wednesday and charged him with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and sexual exploitation of a young male.
He appeared in court Wednesday and was released on bail with restrictions. He is scheduled to appear again on Sept. 17.
Police said Jones coached various teams at the Bantam level in the Ottawa area in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Police said they believe there could be more potential victims and are asking anyone with information about the alleged incident or other incidents to contact Ottawa Police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or Phone Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
