A 50-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges of voyeurism and mischief after he was allegedly caught trying to film up a woman's skirt at Ottawa Buskerfest on Monday.

D.J. Washer was attending the Sparks Street festival with his aunt Monday afternoon when his aunt's boyfriend noticed the man allegedly filming underneath her skirt.

Washer and his aunt's boyfriend confronted the man, who fled and tried to make it to his locked-up bicycle. Washer told CBC News they got to him before he could escape.

"I stopped him on the side of the road and told him that he shouldn't move, he should stay on the ground, and that police would be here any moment," Washer said.

Lens was protruding from small bag

The man had been pretending to film buskers with a mobile phone, but had a second lens protruding from a small bag beside him, Washer said.

Washer told CBC News his aunt didn't realize the man was filming her.

"It's pretty terrible," he said.

Police arrived and arrested the man. He is charged with one count each of voyeurism and mischief.
