1 person dead in Orléans house fire
House fire closed Old Montreal Road for several hours Friday afternoon
Firefighters say one person was found dead after a house fire on Old Montreal Road east of Trim Road Friday afternoon.
According to an Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson, they have not yet determined the age and sex due to the condition of the body.
Fire crews were called to a single-family home in the 1100 block of Old Montreal Road around 2:30 p.m. Friday after reports of smoke and flames.
Firefighters say they found heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene. They said all residents except for one person evacuated the house safely.
"The person that was reportedly inside was found by firefighters and had perished because of the fire," spokesperson Danielle Cardinal said in a statement.
Old Montreal Road was closed between Dairy Drive and Famille-Laporte Avenue for several hours.
The Office of the Fire Marshal is now in charge of investigating the fire.
