Driver fined after hitting Quebec cyclist in bike lane

A driver was charged after striking a cyclist in Chelsea, Que., who was riding in bike lane.
MRC des Collines police said the 46-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries when he was struck at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The driver of a grey Hyundai exited Highway 5 northbound on to Scott Road, but did not see the cyclist.
The driver then struck the cyclist, who was riding in the bike lane, at a high speed. The cyclist's head then smashed against the car's windshield, police said.
The injuries were not life-threatening because the cyclist was wearing a helmet, which was split in two by the impact.
The driver received a ticket for failing to give way to the cyclist.
