Veteran police officer charged with theft, firearm offences

A 52-year-old Ontario Provincial Police officer based in Brockville has been charged with multiple theft and firearm-related offences after an internal OPP investigation.

A veteran OPP officer from Brockville has been charged with theft and firearm-related offences after an internal investigation.

A 52-year-old Ontario Provincial Police constable based in Brockville has been suspended with pay after being charged Saturday with theft and firearm-related offences.

The 20-year veteran, who is posted to the Leeds County OPP detachment, was arrested after an internal investigation by the OPP's professional standards bureau.

He has been charged with:

  • Theft over $5,000.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
  • Breach of trust.
  • Unlawful possession of a restricted firearm.
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm.
  • Unsafe storage of ammunition.
  • Possession of a firearm without a license.
  • Possession of a Schedule II substance.

The officer has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Brockville court on Dec. 11, the OPP said in a media release.
