Bobby Ryan, Senators forward, makes puppy dream of 2 Ottawa boys come true

An Ottawa father is eating his words after making a last-minute bet with his two boys that he'd buy them a puppy if Senators forward Bobby Ryan scored a goal on Sunday night.

With 20 seconds left in the second period against the New York Rangers, Ryan made the puppy dream come true with a rebound goal.

"It's hard to believe. It was just a sign. I made a bet kind of last minute, just to get the kids off my back a bit, and it turned into this," Warren Jansen told CBC Radio's Ottawa Morning on Monday.

"I was a little bit shocked [and thinking], how am I going to get out of this? And then it was all over TV and I was like, there's no way out."

What will they name the pup?

Bobby, of course.

Cole Jansen, who's 10 years old, said he's "always wanted a puppy" and the family is now deciding whether to buy a Pomsky — a Siberian husky and Pomeranian mix — or adopt.

Ryan told reporters after the game that he's happy for the kids.

"I saw the dad's face when they announced [the goal] and he wasn't too impressed, but the kids were and that's all that matters, so I'm pretty happy for them," he said.

"If they want a rescue, I'll rescue one for them."
