Bird strike causes Ottawa plane scare

Almost 100 passengers onboard a twin-engine jet had an uneasy landing Thursday after officials said at least one bird had struck and damaged one of the engines.

A possible bird strike caused a scare for 93 passengers onboard an Ottawa-bound airplane after a bird apparently hit one of the plane's engines.

Ottawa fire services responded to a call at the Ottawa International Airport around 10:48 p.m. Thursday when the airport authority said a twin-engine jet had a vibration in one of its engines.

Firefighters arrived and examined the engine once the jet landed. It was determined a possible "bird strike" had caused the engine to smoke. Officials outside the plane said they could also smell fuel.

The bird did not cause a fire and there were no other hazards reported.

The plane landed safely and nobody was hurt.
