Actor Sandra Oh to get Ottawa's Key to the City
Grew up in Nepean, best known for work on 'Grey's Anatomy'
A Golden Globe-winning actor who grew up in Nepean will be the latest person to receive a Key to the City of Ottawa.
Sandra Oh, best known for playing Dr. Cristina Yang in Grey’s Anatomy, will be honoured at City Hall July 8.
Oh grew up in Nepean and attended Knoxdale Public School and Sir Robert Borden High School, starting as a ballet dancer before moving into stage acting at age ten.
She has won a Golden Globe award, a Screen Actors Guild award and two Best Actress Genie awards, along with five Emmy nominations for her work on Grey’s Anatomy.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said in a news release Oh is well-respected by both peers and critics.
"We are proud to call her Ottawa's own, and have her serve as a role model to aspiring performing artists in Ottawa and around the world," he said.
Ottawa's Key to the City, which was first awarded in 1935, has been given to figures including author Margaret Atwood and photographer Yousuf Karsh.
