Ontario slaps 'R' rating on violent video game

Film review board decision makes it illegal to rent or sell game to anyone under the age of 18

The Ontario Film Review Board has put an "R" rating on a video game for the first time. It means retailers won't be allowed to sell or rent the game Man Hunt to anyone under the age of 18.

The game features intense images of blood and gore. Players assume the persona of a death-row inmate out to kill his enemies.

Consumer Affairs Minister Jim Watson says the game is particularly violent - showing characters tracking down and killing other characters. Watson says he supports the decision of the Film Review Board and warns more video games may face classifcation in the future.

It's not the first time Man Hunt has stirred controversy. It was banned in New Zealand after complaints it was too violent.
