Police say a young man from Newfoundland has died following a single-vehicle crash on a busy Nova Scotia highway outside Halifax.

The RCMP said the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway 102 in Windsor Junction between exits 4C and 5.

Investigators learned a Honda Civic was travelling north when it left the road and came to rest in a ditch.

The driver and lone occupant of the car, a 20-year-old Newfoundland man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The northbound section of the highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
