2016 China Super Vocal, a Chinese singing competition similar to the U.S. reality show, The Voice, is holding auditions in Halifax.

"I would say that's the most popular show in China for singing related to singing competitions ... that's the most famous one right now," said Jinbo Chen, an organizer of the Atlantic Canadian 2016 Super China Vocal.

Chen says 2016 is the first time the show — now in its fifth season — is looking for Atlantic Canadians to participate.

Everyone auditioning must be able to sing in Chinese. Sixty people from across Atlantic Canada are auditioning.

Chen says when auditions were first announced, people couldn't believe it.

"They're really excited," said Chen.

Nova Scotia auditions began April 2 and finish April 10 at Fantasie Music on 5512 Spring Garden Road in Halifax.

Fifteen contestants will be chosen for the Atlantic Canada finals at the Rebecca Cohn Theatre on May 13

The top three contestants from Atlantic Canada will go to  Vancouver on May 29, along with others from across Canada who make the cut.

The number one contestant from Canada will be part of the main show in China, while second and third place Canadian contestants will need to compete against other Chinese singers to secure a spot.
