Victoria Day 2014 in Halifax: What's open and what's closed
In addition to the holiday, the royal visit of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will interrupt access to downtown Halifax.
A list of popular places and what their hours are Victoria Day Monday
Here's what's open and closed on Victoria Day (May 19, 2014) in Halifax:
NSLC:
- Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation outlets will have regular hours on Victoria Day. Stores will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the following exceptions for stores located in shopping malls: Halifax Shopping Centre (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Mic Mac Mall (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Scotia Square (Closed).
Food:
- Atlantic Super Store outlets open regular hours.
- Sobeys open regular hours
- Foodland outlets open regular hours
Shopping malls:
- Halifax Shopping Centre: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Park Lane Mall: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Scotia Square Mall: Closed
- Mic Mac Mall: 9:30 am to 5 p.m.
Banks:
- All banks closed
Halifax Public Library:
- All branches of the Halifax Public Library will be closed on Victoria Day
Garbage, green bin and recycling collection:
- Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Victoria Day will occur the Saturday before — on May 17.
- The waste processing and disposal facilities in Otter Lake, the two composting facilities and the municipal recycling plant will be closed.
- The residential household special waste depot at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr. will be closed Saturday, May 17, but will be open Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Parking:
- Parking is free at meters on Monday. However, due the royal visit there will be bags on meters Barrington from Spring Garden to Bishop. Residents are also reminded that if a street is closed due to the visit, there wouldn’t be parking on that street.
Transit services:
- Regular Metro Transit buses will operate on a Sunday holiday schedule
- Metro Link buses and Metro X 330, 401 and 402 will not run.
- Metro X 320 to the airport is running.
- The Alderney Ferry is on a holiday schedule.
- The Woodside Ferry is not running.

Canada Post:
- All post offices will be closed. There is no collection or delivery of mail on Victoria Day.
