For the second time in less than a year, the provincial government and Nova Scotia Teachers Union have a tentative contract agreement.

A release from the union on Wednesday says the provincial executive will see the details of the contract on Sept. 15, with regional meetings around the province for teachers to be scheduled within the next two weeks.

The two sides have been talking since the last tentative agreement was resoundingly rejected by teachers in December. At that time, teachers were offered the same wage formula the government has made to all public sector unions: increases of zero, zero, one and 1.5 per cent over four years.

Since then, the province's doctors have agreed to a contract that includes those financial increases, but so far no other unions have signed a deal. A date has not been set yet for the teachers' vote.

The union represents more than 10,000 public school teachers, community college faculty and other professional support staff.
