A national charity that collects quilts for injured veterans is about to receive three more from a local Cape Breton quilting group.

The Tea Thyme Quilters are making the quilts for the Quilts of Valour Canada Society (QOVC), a group that has collected more than 7,000 quilts for veterans since it was created in 2009. The organization gives quilts to veterans who have injuries from their service.

The group plans on having all of them completed by the end of its Celebrating Quilting at the Causeway Quilt Show taking place Aug.11-16 at the St. David's United Church Hall in Port Hastings.

Barbara MacIntyre, a member of the Tea Thyme Quilters, said they've already made two of the three quilts. The third one is not finished, but the group plans on completing it in a special way.

"We will put that on a quilting frame during our show and the girls from the Ocean Waves Quilting Society will come in and quilt on it each day," said MacIntyre.

'They...want to give back'

Mary Ewing, president of QOVC, thinks its wonderful the Tea Thyme Quilters are contributing to the cause.

"The people involved with this organization feel that they...want to give back," said Ewing.

MacIntyre says the group plans to donate the quilts as soon as they are finished.

"Hopefully it can happen during the quilt show, that we know who the veteran is and he would be chosen and he would come to the church and accept his quilt," said MacIntyre.
