Stolen dog's family in Porters Lake thankful for help bringing Izzy home
Heidi Woods says family had been 'highly depressed' after their dog disappeared
A Porters Lake family is thanking everyone involved in helping to bring their dog Isabelle home, after she was stolen from their home almost three weeks ago and somehow ended up in Prince Edward Island.
"I feel incredible. I feel very loved," said Heidi Woods, Isabelle's owner.
"I didn't even have 100 people on my Facebook and it spread so far — it's incredible what social media can do."
Isabelle — or Izzy, as the family calls her — is a two-year-old female American Staffordshire Terrier. She was last seen in her outdoor kennel on July 23. When the family returned home that day, Izzy's kennel was open and it didn't appear that she had clawed her way out.
Woods appealed for help on Facebook and Kijiji and her online pleas were noticed by police officers in Summerside, P.E.I., over the weekend. Soon after, Izzy was found and reunited with her Nova Scotia family.
Woods says police are continuing to investigate how the dog ended up in another province. Police said the people who had her were taking care of her for somebody else and are not guilty of wrongdoing.
Izzy is home safe and is acting normal again, as is the rest of the family, Woods said.
"We were highly depressed, you might call it I guess. Just sick wondering where she was, who had her," she said.
Woods, who drove to Summerside to pick up her dog as soon as police contacted her, said she could see the stress Izzy was under as they drove home.
"When we travelled across the bridge from P.E.I., a motorbike would go by and her head would just flip, or a big truck. She just seem startled all the time," she said.
Izzy has spent her time sleeping and eating well now that she's at home in familiar surroundings. She has an appointment with a veterinarian Friday morning.
Woods said her family is just happy to be whole again.
"We've had — I don't even know — so much joy. A huge weight has been lifted," she said.
