Stephen McNeil looking for federal money to improve Nova Scotia internet
McNeil is also looking for the federal government to invest in other priorities like the coast guard
Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil is hoping to tap into the federal government's Building Canada Fund to improve high-speed internet access across the province.
Residents and municipalities in rural parts of the province have long complained about slow and unreliable internet, while some have complained that they aren't even able to get internet access.
According to Infrastructure Canada, the Building Canada Fund supports infrastructure projects that help build "a stronger economy, a cleaner environment and strong and prosperous communities."
McNeil met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Wednesday, marking the first time the two have met face to face since Trudeau took office.
During their conversation, McNeil brought up other priorities, including federal government support and investment in the Canadian Coast Guard and the Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise, a hub for ocean technology research and development.
"The prime minister has been very receptive," said McNeil.
