In a release, SIRT said they took over investigation after Halifax police were called to an incident involving the male officer and a woman. Officers at the scene determined it was an allegation of domestic violence and SIRT was brought in to take the lead in the investigation.
SIRT says the officer involved has 13 years on the HRP force and was taken into custody by officers on the scene. He was later released by SIRT investigators. No charges have been laid.
Halifax police said the officer has been suspended with pay until the end of the investigation.
