Following an 11-week investigation, RCMP have laid sex-related charges against a 37-year-old woman who was teaching at a Nova Scotia grade school.

Last fall, police received a complaint from Thorburn Consolidated School, a Grade Primary to Grade 9 school in Pictou County.

After a weeks-long investigation, Pictou County RCMP arrested 37-year-old Carolyn Amy Hood Friday at her home in Stellarton without incident.

Hood had been a teacher at the school and is listed on the school’s 2013 staff directory.

Debbie Buott-Matheson, spokesperson for the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, confirms Hood is still an employee of the board, but would not confirm if she was on leave or whether she is a teacher.

Hood has been charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference, two counts of luring minors over the internet for a sexual purpose and two counts of sexual exploitation of a young person.

She has been released from custody on conditions pending her appearance in Pictou County Provincial Court on March 17.

The investigation is ongoing.
