School cancellations, slick roads reported across Nova Scotia
Winter weather has forced nearly all schools in the province to stayed closed Tuesday
Ice and snow covered roads and highways are making for treacherous driving conditions across much of Nova Scotia, with most schools and many offices closed for the day.
Parts of the province were hit with between 25 and 35 centimetres of snow and ice pellets. Flash freezing conditions solidified the snow, making for a difficult cleanup.
Nearly all public schools in the province cancelled classes today, with universities and colleges opting to delay opening until later in the day, once road conditions improved.
Tuesday morning, both the arrival and departure boards at Halifax Stanfield International Airport were a sea of red with cancellations and delays causing travel headaches for many. Afternoon and evening flights appear to, so far, be on schedule.
According to the Department of Transportation website, nearly all mainland Nova Scotia roads were snow covered Tuesday morning, expect in southeastern Cape Breton, which received mainly rain during Monday's storm.
