Remains found in Truro may be biker's
Nova Scotia RCMP have confirmed human remains have been found on a property on Hiram Lynds Road in Truro.
Officers uncovered the remains Sunday afternoon during a search of the property and remain at the scene.
Police had been searching the area since Wednesday while investigating a lead in the disappearance of former Hells Angel Randy Mersereau, who has been missing for 11 years.
RCMP said the search was initiated as the result of information given to investigators in October when they searched a property on Onslow Mountain in Colchester County.
Mersereau disappeared in October 1999, about a month after escaping a bombing at a used car dealership in Bible Hill that injured seven people. Mersereau was believed to be the target of the blast during a drug war with his former club, RCMP said.
According to documents filed in provincial court in Truro on Thursday, police believe Jeffrey Albert Lynds, a well-known member of the Hells Angels, killed Mersereau, a close criminal associate in the 1990s. Lynds became a member of the biker gang shortly after Mersereau disappeared, leading police to speculate he was involved.
Lynds is already facing first-degree murder charges in connection with two Montreal killings. Convicted killer Kirk Murray, 47, and an innocent bystander were slain outside a McDonald's restaurant in January. Lynds has pleaded not guilty to both charges and will be back in a Montreal courtroom on Jan. 11.
The documents containing the allegations against Lynds in Mersereau's disappearance were filed in support of a charge against a Truro-area man.
Gerald Leslie MacCabe, of Salmon River, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of being an accessory to murder in connection with the Mersereau case. The documents allege Lynds killed Mersereau, and MacCabe helped Lynds escape.
MacCabe, 43, has been remanded to the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth until his next court appearance on Dec. 7. He has been ordered not to have any contact with 10 people, including Lynds.
The Lynds family owns property on Hiram Lynds Road.
