SIRT investigating N.S. RCMP officer accused of sexual assault

An RCMP officer has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the Pictou, N.S., area.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Pictou District RCMP received a call alleging a male RCMP member had sexually assaulted a woman, said a news release from Nova Scotia's police watchdog, the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

According to the release, the alleged victim and the RCMP officer know each other.

No other details have been made public.

The investigation has been handed over to SIRT.

RCMP say they aren't commenting on the case because SIRT is handling it.
