Most N.S. schools to reopen Wednesday
Schools that are not open will communicate to families affected through their websites
Most public schools in Nova Scotia will reopen on Wednesday.
"Officials have assessed all schools, buildings and properties and those that are able to resume classes will open tomorrow," a press release from the Education Department said.
The release said the school districts and francophone schools run by the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial would communicate directly to parents whether any of their facilities will not open.
The following school districts have specified via their website or social media accounts which schools will be closed.
Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP)
All CSAP schools and offices will be open on Wednesday with exception to the following:
- École Mer et Monde, Halifax peninsula
- École Pubnico-Ouest, Pubnico
Halifax
The Halifax Regional Centre for Education said it has inspected all 134 of its schools and determined they will be open with the exception of two that do not have power yet:
- Atlantic View Elementary, Lawrencetown
- O'Connell Drive Elementary, Porters Lake
In a news release, Halifax school officials said there will be work continuing at some school sites to clear debris and repair hurricane damage. They also warned there could be some delays with transportation due to the hurricane damage in the areas surrounding schools.
Annapolis Valley
School officials said via Twitter they will announce at 6 a.m. Wednesday which schools do not have power and will not be opened.
"Please note bus drivers will use discretion on roads affected by debris or downed powerlines, and school food services may be limited," the tweet said.
Cape Breton-Victoria
School officials tweeted that "those schools that are safe to welcome students and staff will be open" but did not provide any further details.
Chignecto-Central
All schools have power and are open, except for Advocate District which is still currently experiencing a power outage and may be delayed in opening.
The school district tweeted that it will provide an update on when Advocate District will open at 6:30 a.m.
South Shore
Most schools will reopen, except for the following that will remain closed due to power outages:
- New Germany Rural High School
- New Ross Consolidated School
School officials will provide an update on their website and on local radio after 6 a.m. Wednesday. For all schools that are open, morning bus pickup will be at the regular time for students.
Food services such as school cafeterias and breakfast programs may not be available, so students are asked to bring their own food.
Strait
All schools will be open tomorrow, with the exception of four that are still being monitored:
- Bayview Education Centre and Felix Marchand Education Centre still do not have power as of Tuesday afternoon
- Dalbrae Academy and Whycocomagh Education Centre have power, but no water as of Tuesday afternoon
School officials will advise Wednesday morning around 6:30 a.m. on the district's website and on local radio whether services have been restored to those four schools and whether classes can go ahead.
