The Digby ferry was dispatched to help an injured fisherman in the Bay of Fundy Sunday night.

The Halifax Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre got a call at around 5:30 p.m. that a crew member aboard the Compass Rose II  was hurt.

The closest ship in the area was the Princess of Acadia.

"They dispatched a lifeboat to pick up the individual," said Capt. Liam Mather, spokesman for the JRCC. "There was a doctor and some nursing staff who were on board the Princess of Acadia which did make that ship a viable place for that individual to to be transported to to receive care on their way back to Saint John."

The ferry arrived in Saint John just before 8 p.m., where emergency responders were waiting.
