More than 1,500 people in Cape Breton were without power Sunday morning after a pole caught fire.

Nova Scotia Power reported that a fire had knocked out electricity to customers between Port Hood and Port Hastings shortly after midnight.

An NSP spokesperson said the outage was caused when a pole caught fire, but it's unclear how the fire started.

Crews replaced the pole Sunday morning and power was restored to the area shortly before 10 a.m.

Another outage was reported around 3 a.m. Sunday, affecting an additional 1,500 customers from Christmas Island to just outside of Sydney. Nova Scotia Power said it was caused by an "emergency repair of the lines."

The spokesperson said the two outages were not connected.

Power was restored to that region around 7:30 a.m.

The outages came the day after about 1,100 Nova Scotia Power customers were left without electricity Saturday due to strong winds. Most outages were located between Aylesford, Berwick and Harbourville, along with an area around River Hebert.

NSP had power restored to most of those customers Saturday evening. There were 250 outages across the province as of 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
