Police end search for missing woman at Long Lake, investigation still open
Police say 26-year-old Jashansdeep Kaur was not located
Police have concluded their search for a missing 26-year-old woman at Long Lake Provincial Park, but say the investigation is still open as she hasn't been found.
First responders began looking for Jashansdeep Kaur on Sunday when it was reported that she went missing while kayaking at the popular park in Halifax.
Halifax Regional Police "continue to investigate the matter as a missing person," according to a news release issued Wednesday.
Acting public information officer Const. Paul DesRochers declined an interview with CBC News.
DesRochers would not say whether investigators believe Kaur is alive, and would not provide any other details.
A number of agencies were involved in the search including Halifax Search and Rescue, Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, Nova Scotia RCMP's underwater recovery team and the provincial Department of Natural Resources.
On Monday morning, police said Kaur's kayak, life-jacket and cellphone had been located.
An officer on scene said it was a sit-on-top kayak, meaning its seat is on top and above water level. They said the life-jacket and cellphone were found on the kayak, which was upright and floating on the lake.
Police said they were alerted that Kaur was missing around 12:40 p.m. AT on Sunday. On Monday, a drone and a Department of Natural Resources helicopter were used to look for her.
Kaur is a South Asian woman with a slim build, about five feet tall with long dark hair. She was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black pants with white and black sneakers.
