Halifax cyclists looking for a place to park now have 16 new spots to choose from on Charles Street near Agricola Street.

The Halifax Cycling Coalition's on-street bicycle parking pilot is on now until Nov. 15.

The parking spaces can be found at 5775 Charles street by the restaurant enVie.

The coalition says the project discourages illegal parking.

While the on-street bicycle parking is only temporary, the group is seeking approval to make it permanent. That would involve bolting the bicycle racks directly into the pavement.

The project was funded by a $7,107 grant from the District 8 Capital Fund.

Approximately $3,000 was used. The remainder of the money will be used for additional pilots next year or returned to the capital fund.
