Jamie Muir put on Farm Credit Canada board
A former Nova Scotia cabinet minister has been appointed to the board of Farm Credit Canada, an agricultural lending agency for the federal government.
Jamie Muir's appointment is for a three-year term and was one of two board appointments made last week by Gerry Ritz, the federal Minister of Agriculture.
Muir represented the Truro area for 11 years in the Nova Scotia legislature as a Progressive Conservative. He served as minister of several senior portfolios in the administrations of John Hamm and Rodney MacDonald.
Farm Credit Canada tells CBC News Muir's annual retainer is $6,200 per year and he will receive $485 per day for attendance at board meetings.
"Naturally, we reimburse him for out of pocket travel costs — hotel and airfare and meals," Eva Larouche, a spokeswoman for Farm Credit Canada, wrote in an e-mailed statement.
In 2012-13, there were five board meetings and 16 committee meetings.
