Nova Scotia teachers holding strike vote on Oct. 25
Work stoppage on the table after union members twice reject government deals
The Nova Scotia Teachers Union will hold a strike vote on Oct. 25, the union said Tuesday.
NSTU President Liette Doucet told members that the provincial executive members met and unanimously recommended seeking a strike mandate from public school members.
"Regional meetings are taking place for public school NSTU reps and public school members on October 17, 18 and 19," she told members in an email.
"Those meetings are taking place to answer questions you may have about what a strike will mean for public school members.
"We need you to vote on October 25 and vote yes."
Last week, 70 per cent of NSTU members voted against the Liberal government's latest deal. That was the second time members rejected a deal reached by union management and government in a few months.
Karen Casey, the minister of education and early childhood development, said then that the government "will not be returning to the table."
