Power restored after major outage in Yarmouth area

Thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers were without power Saturday afternoon after damage to transmission equipment at the company's Tusket substation outside Yarmouth. However, service was restored by late afternoon.

The power is back on for thousands in the Yarmouth, N.S., area after a major outage on Saturday afternoon.

Power was restored before 4:30 p.m. for all but a few hundred customers. At one point, outages affected more than 14,300 customers from Yarmouth to Barrington and Cape Sable Island.

Nova Scotia Power said on its Facebook page the problems were caused by damage to transmission equipment at the Tusket substation.
