Kelly Regan, the MLA for Bedford Basin, has announced she won't reoffer in the next provincial election scheduled for July 2025.

"This time of year is often a time for new beginnings," Regan said in a media release Friday. "So it seems like the right moment to share with you that I've decided I will not be a candidate in the next provincial election."

Regan has served three districts over the last 15 years.

She was elected in 2009 in Bedford-Birch Cove, then in Bedford in 2013 and 2017. She was elected in 2021 in the Bedford Basin riding.

"It's been a privilege to serve the people of the Bedford area and the people of Nova Scotia. I am so grateful for this great honour — one I could never have imagined when I was growing up," Regan said in the statement.

She has also served as deputy premier and in several cabinet portfolios.

In her statement, she thanked her family, also referencing her husband Geoff Regan's career in politics. She said their children have been through 13 elections.

Regan will remain in her position until the next election is called. She is currently the Liberal health critic.

Several other MLAs have announced they won't run again, including former NDP leader Gary Burrill in Halifax Chebucto and PC Pat Dunn in Pictou Centre.
