Media and others got a close-up look at the wreck of the MV Miner.

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Geoff MacLellan, along with members of the media, are taking a tour of the wreck site of the MV Miner off Scatarie Island.

The ship ran aground almost three years ago. An Antigonish company is being paid almost $12 million to salvage what's left.

The Miner is expected to be gone by November.

The steel will be loaded onto a barge and sold for scrap.

The MV Miner broke its line and ran aground in September 2011 while being towed from Montreal to Turkey, where it was to be scrapped. The ocean and rocky coast have shredded the steel hull.
