Most Halifax-area wildfire evacuees get green light to head back home
About 800 residents still remain under evacuation order
Most of the remaining evacuees from the Halifax-area wildfire have been allowed to return home, according to the municipality's website.
The municipality lifted the evacuation order for most of the Phase 3 area at 1 p.m. AT. It impacts about 3,200 residents.
In its update, the municipality also said "the area of significant impact has changed and some areas that were previously evacuated have also been lifted."
Nova Scotia Power planned to reconnect power to those communities on Friday. It's expected to take approximately three hours after homeowners have returned, but there may be isolated power outages depending on the level of damage to homes.
In an effort to speed up the re-entry process in areas where evacuation orders have been lifted, homeowners are not required to show identification to return to their homes.
The remaining areas of impact still have check-in points and security patrols.
There are still approximately 812 residents displaced from the evacuation order, according to the municipality.
Evacuation orders remain in place in the areas of Hummingbird Lane, Westwood Hills and Yankeetown Road.
