Man was on a boat on Friday when the vessel was involved in a collision
A boater who went missing on Eel Lake near Saulnierville, N.S., on Friday has been found dead, say RCMP.
Police are still investigating the incident, which they learned about Friday around 5 p.m. AT.
Two men were on board the 4.25-metre aluminum boat when it struck a stationary 3.65-metre boat in a narrow part of the lake. Both men in the larger boat were thrown into the water as a result of the collision.
One was rescued, while the other man, a 62-year-old from the Halifax area, went missing.
About 60 people searched for the man throughout the weekend, including those aboard a helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources and five boats from nearby fire departments, as well as search and rescue crews on the ground who combed the edges of the lake.
The dead man was found around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Senior communications adviser Allison Gerrard said Monday there were life jackets on board, but they weren't being used at the time of the crash.
Both the boats involved in the incident have been seized by police.
Update - 9:17 p.m. Sunday: The man who was reported missing in the area of Eel Lake has been found deceased. The investigation into the boating collision is ongoing; more details will be released when available. Our thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time.
