CBC Cape Breton hosted a mayoral debate Tuesday, Oct. 8, for candidates in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

The event was held in front of an audience at Centre 200 in Sydney, N.S. Although the event was open to the public, audience members were not able to ask the candidates questions. Moderator Steve Sutherland, host of CBC Radio's Information Morning Cape Breton, posed the questions.

Eight of the nine candidates running for mayor — Donnie Bacich, Cecil Clarke, James Edwards, Carla George, Kevin MacEachern, Archie MacKinnon, Rankin MacSween and Joe Ward — took part in the debate.

The start of the debate was delayed by 15 minutes due to a medical emergency involving one of the candidates.

In his introductory remarks, Sutherland said candidate Vince Hall would not be participating in the debate.

The debate can also be watched on CBC Nova Scotia YouTube.
