Marine Atlantic cancels sailings due to high winds

High winds cancel Sunday morning crossings

High winds and rough seas are keeping Marine Atlantic's ferries in port today.

The ferry service between North Sydney, N.S. and Port aux Basques, N.L. didn't run at all Saturday either due to weather.

Environment Canada has a gale warning in effect, with westerly winds reaching 35-45 knots.

Waves could reach 4-6 metres by this afternoon, which would make for a tough crossing.

The wind and waves are expected to die down by Monday morning.

Passengers with reservations for Saturday and Sunday have been rescheduled for the 11:45 a.m. crossing Monday.

Marine Atlantic is asking passengers to stay in contact with the company by either checking its website or calling 1-800-341-7981.
