Police in N.S. issue tickets for violations of Health Protection Act
Tickets relate to failing to wear mask, observe social distance and abide by travel restrictions
Police in Nova Scotia have issued a number of tickets in recent days for violations of the Health Protection Act.
A 24-year-old man has been charged after refusing to wear a mask inside a Canadian Tire store in Glace Bay, N.S.
The Cape Breton Regional Police Service said they were called to the store around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
They said the man was not wearing a mask and when he was approached by staff, he refused to put one on and refused to leave the store.
He was issued a ticket for violating the Health Protection Act, which carries a fine of $2,422.
On Saturday at 2:15 p.m., Halifax Regional Police were called to Citadel Hill in Halifax for a report of an illegal gathering. Police said those in the group were not physically distanced or wearing masks. Officers issued tickets for $2,422 to two people in the group.
On Monday at about 8 a.m., Halifax police said they ticketed someone who entered Nova Scotia by vehicle in violation of the act. That ticket also came with a fine of $2,422.
