A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital after being shot multiple times in Dartmouth Wednesday night.

At 10:30 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a call after several shots were reported fired on Bras Dor Lane in Dartmouth, not far from the Macdonald Bridge.

They found the 24-year-old man. He was taken to hospital in Halifax. Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, he is expected to survive.

Police said two suspects fled on foot.

Following the shooting, a canine unit was brought in and tracked the suspects from Bras Dor Lane to Demetreous Lane, then northbound towards Boland Road to the North Brook school property.

One woman, who has lived in the neighbourhood for more than a decade and didn't want to be identified, said she has lost count of the number of shootings over the years.

She said she "felt" more than heard the shots, "Like 'tap, tap, tap,' on my wall," she said pointing to the outside of her home.

Another woman who lives less than 50 metres from the scene, who did not want to be identified for safety reasons, said she's ready to move back to Ontario.

She is originally from Nova Scotia, and moved home in December. She said she fears for her safety living in Dartmouth.

Last night, she stepped outside to have a cigarette when police converged on the neighbourhood. She said she didn't know what was happening and she didn't hear any shots.

Police said the weapon used was not found.
