The Big Lift is being suspended during the holiday season.
No closures on the Macdonald Bridge are scheduled between 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 24 and 7 p.m. on Jan. 3.
- Macdonald Bridge Big Lift weekend work delayed due to wind
- Macdonald Bridge deck replacement project expected to meet timeline
And travel on both bridges, the Macdonald and the MacKay, will be free on Christmas Day, Friday, between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
"Providing free travel on the bridges Christmas Day is a tradition that began in 1983," said Steve Snider, general manager and CEO for Halifax Harbour Bridges.
"Traffic volumes are low on Christmas Day so it allows more of our staff to be home with friends and family and is a gesture of thanks to our customers."
