Loretta Saunders murder pre-trial hearing adjourned
Victoria Henneberry, 28, and Blake Leggette, 25, accused of first-degree murder
A pre-trial hearing into the admissibility of evidence in the killing of Loretta Saunders, and whether the two accused of murdering her should be tried separately, was adjourned Thursday until later this month.
Victoria Henneberry, 28, and Blake Leggette, 25, are charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 26-year-old Saint Mary's University student.
A court in Halifax was due to hear arguments from lawyers Thursday in a pre-trial hearing, but one of the defence lawyers asked for more time after the Crown said it wanted to introduce new evidence.
They will return to court Feb. 25.
There is a ban on publishing details of Thursday's hearing. Leggette was in court, however Henneberry was not and was instead represented by her lawyer.
Police believe Saunders, 26, was killed in the Halifax apartment she shared with the pair and that they disposed of her body in New Brunswick.
She was last seen on Feb. 13, 2014, and her body was found 13 days later in the median of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Salisbury, N.B.
Their trial is scheduled to begin April 20.
