LaHave River tragedy claims the life of 83-year-old woman

An 83-year-old woman drowned in a swimming accident Thursday afternoon.

Swimmer got into trouble at 4:30 p.m.

An 83-year-old woman drowned in a swimming accident Thursday afternoon.

Police say the woman was swimming in Pentz on the LaHave River in Lunenburg County, N.S., with a friend, but ran into trouble and sank. She was found a short time later and people helped her out of the water.

Fire fighters, EHS and RCMP members performed CPR for an extended period of time, but she didn't survive.
