Kevin Davison exceeds fundraising goal to record PTSD song
'When Those Sirens Are Gone' aims to help first responders
A New Minas paramedic has been flooded with support since writing a song about first responders who deal with PTSD.
Kevin Davison said in just one month, people donated $7,000 to pay for him to travel to Nashville to record the song.
The tune, called 'When Those Sirens Are Gone', describes what first responders deal with after they leave an accident scene. Davison said he wrote it to help others who are struggling with PTSD.
"I've been through it," Davison said. "I've been to some very serious instances where I had to just go home and debrief myself, talk to my colleagues. So this song.. it's really hitting people because of the experiences that people have."
Davison said he's received messages from emergency workers all over the country who say they found solace in the song. He said a group of firefighters turned on the tune after responding to a horrific car crash on Christmas Eve.
"As they got back to their station, they all sat together," Davison said. "They brought the song up on their computer, they all listened to it, They had some tears, they went home."
Fire departments donated, too, far exceeding his $5,000 goal. He says the money will pay to send him to Nashville this winter to put the song on an album.
Davison said it should be available to the public in March.
A portion of the album sales will be donated to a charity to help first responders with PTSD.
