High wind warnings remain in Cape Breton, Guysborough County

Rain and wind caused messy driving conditions. Weather conditions also led to school cancellations in parts of the Nova Scotia.

Rain and wind caused messy driving conditions in large parts of Nova Scotia Wednesday and led to a handful of school boards to cancel classes for the day. 

Environment Canada has lifted freezing rain warnings for all counties. Between 15 and 25 millimetres of rain was expected to fall along the Atlantic Coast, with higher local amounts possible in heavy downpours.

Flooding Wednesday morning forced Halifax Regional Police to close the Bedford Highway from Bayview Road to Flamingo Drive.

Wind warnings remain in effect for Cape Breton and Guysborough County.

Schools, ferries cancelled

Environment Canada is calling for winds gusting to 90 km/h in some areas along the coast. In elevated parts of Cape Breton, Les Suêtes winds could reach 140 km/h. 

The weather service warns the high winds could damage shingles and windows or break tree branches. 

The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and the Strait Regional School Board have closed their schools due to weather.

École Rose-des-Vents, École NDA and École acadienne de Truro are also cancelled. 

Morning Marine Atlantic crossings have also been cancelled and rescheduled to depart Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. Bay Ferries has also cancelled or delayed sailings between Digby and Saint John.
