Janet Joanne MacNeil killed in Highway 103 crash
Collision occurred between car and transport truck near Blockhouse
RCMP have identified the woman who died Monday morning in a crash on Highway 103 in Lunenburg County as Janet Joanne MacNeil, 40.
At around 9:50 a.m., RCMP, fire crews and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of a head-on collision between a transport truck and a car.
Police say a preliminary investigation has determined a tractor trailer was heading toward Bridgewater and the car was heading toward Halifax when the crash happened.
MacNeil, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic is being rerouted between exit 11, Blockhouse and exit 12, Bridgewater. RCMP say they expect Highway 103 to be closed overnight as a traffic analyst investigates.
The CBC's Blair Rhodes, who was at the scene, said there was a strong smell of diesel in the air. He said a containment boom was set up in a waterway near the crash after one of the truck's diesel tanks was torn away.
